SKIN CARE ANDS MAKEUP MUST HAVES

The first product I MUST review, is from Peter Thomas Roth's new Firmx line and its called Instant Firmx. I am a fan of ALL of the products in this line, but the ones that make it to my list are these two:

(I wish I was brave enough to post before and after pics of myself pre and post using this product, but my vanity wont let me, so you are just going to have to take my word for it, or better yet, try it for yourself!). Simply spread an even layer of this mask on your entire face (they have a similar formula for the eye area) and let it dry and tighten (takes about 5 min). Then you rinse away the mask with water and the tightened affect stays behind!I love using it prior to an event or photoshoot because it gives you a fresh, tight feel and makes your face look younger by at least 5 years! Although its kind of a temporary effect, there are long term benefits to using this product. Active firming agents remain in the skin after the tightening mask is rinsed off. These agents work beneath the skin’s surface to help tighten, firm and smooth the appearance of fine lines, deep wrinkles and pores. Its amazing ladies! Prepare to be wowed.... I was!

Next product is also from the Firmx line, and is a night Retinol treatment. This product has bumped up the moisture level on my skin so dramatically! I truly feel a difference when I am using this product vs. when I am not. Retinol Fusion PM is a microencapsulated retinol at 1.5% that helps to encourage cell turn over while moisturizing skin with vitamins C and E (also protects from free radicals). I love it and am SO glad I discovered this little miracle product!

The third product is an amazing scrub by Benfit. Contains natural clay & seaweed extract rich in minerals, nutrients and sugars, known to purify the skin. I love how invisible my pores become after using it and love the grain (not too coarse or too soft- just right!) and it smells so good!

Next comes MAKEUP!!! I love love love all Lorac blushes, but my two most lust worthy are blush/bonzer compact duos that are AMAZE. Here they are:

Hot Flash (pink shimmer/bronze shimmer)

And Hot & Spicy (peach shimmer/light bronze shimmer)

I wont leave home without BOTH of these in my makeup bag! They are the most beautiful blush colors and photograph BEAUTIFULLY!!! I love the slight shimmer (very subtle though, almost more of just a satin finish). The bronzers they are paired with work PERFECTLY with the blushes.

Must Have Hairspray

Victoria's Secret is once again doing the Free Secret Rewards Card (with any $10 purchase you get a card that could be worth $10, $50, $100 or $500), and whenever this event is going on, I try to make as many purchases throughout the month at VS as possible! I mean, why not? If its a $12 hairspray, its actually $2 because the card you get with your purchase is worth at least $10! Its a steal and is fun to go in the following month and find out how much your cards are worth.

Last week I went in to VS and picked up this Hairspray. Love the bottle, its pretty! And love the smell- doesn't smell like hairspray at all but more like a delish body spray. This hairspray is MAGIC. It leaves your hair so soft, so much shiner, and creates great volume. I didn't think that my curl held as well as it could have, but I liked the way my hair felt and looked so much that I didn't care!

Defiantly recommend!!!

My Oscar 2011 "Best Dressed List"

I have to go in the order in which my breath was taken away, as one by one, these gorgeous power-houses glided down the red carpet in the wonder that was the fashion they wore, skillfully assembled by a posse who, obviously, knew almost without flaw, what they were doing.

My first "WOW" came when Mandy Moore stepped into the view. She literally dazzled in a nude sparkling Monique Lhuillier dress. It was sheer perfection! I love how it looks like she is nearly naked and just dipped in diamonds! So princess. I didn't hate her hair and makeup.... but also didn't love either enough to expound on... so we will just leave it at: gorgeous dress.

Just the words "Lavender and lime" are somehow so delicious... as was Cate Blanchett's dress which was a Givenchy Couture beaded work of art. This dress is STUNNING!!! Her hair and makeup was lovely... the jewelery got an "ehhh" from me but gosh... that dress!!!

Ahhhh Gweenie.... she is so adorable yet so rarely gets it right on the red carpet! This Oscar night was an exception to her fashion opps routine however, as she glided past the flashing lights in this liquid silver Calvin Klein Collection dress. I loved the sleek, simple design and the sensually fluid way it fell over her svelte bod. Her jewels, Louis Vuitton, were perfection with this dress! Loved the brooch at her hip and her earrings... so glam. As for her hair and makeup, well, lets just say she had the right team handle her goods!The silky straight strands paired with her fresh glowing skin and nude lips were so beautiful. I love everything about this look for her.

Next came the glowing and graceful Halle Berry. Now I am a girl that loves sparkle and in the "sparkle department, Ms. Halle did not disappoint. I love the tulle which gave an angelic sort of super soft look to her gown and made he almost appear to be arriving in a cloud. Her hair: flawless. Makeup: gorgeous. She got it right in this Marchesa... yes she did.

Lastly (but never lastly!) is the fabulous Oprah Winfrey. I don't think I have ever seen a more gorgeously dressed curvy woman before! This Zac Posen dress made me want to cry! So gorg. It fit her PERFECTLY and I love the ombre sequin color graduation.... just amazing. Love the not-so-perfect hair (a little mess makes a look so much more interesting and sexxxy in my opinion!) and her makeup... well, whats new. She once again had not-so-great makeup... but I LOVED the dress and hair so much that I will not rant makeup woes this time. : ))

Inspired by Peace, Love, Juicy Couture

This season's Juicy Couture ad campaign for their new fragrance totally has me inspired! I love the gilded butterflies, soft fur, wild hair, crisp, clean minimal makeup, and angel-eyed model that is the face of this campaign. So much beauty to take in! Makes me want to inhale deeply of this tantalizingly packaged fragrance!

Peace, Love and Juicy Couture is inspired by earthly beauty and far fetched things - and captured the free spirited, hippy vibe of Malibu. Inside, meyer lemon tree blossom, wild hyacinth, sweet apple accord, black currant bud absolute, sambac jasmine absolute, star magnolia, malibu poppy, honeysuckle, linden blossom, orris extract, sheer patchouli flower, and enveloping musks. All of this is bottled up with a turquoise gems adorned with bohemian charms and girl tassels.

It is every bit as good as it sounds... take my word for it!

The Perfect Pink Pout

I have never been a huge lipstick wearer... I tend to opt for a chap-stick, preferably cherry flavored, with a tinted gloss applied atop. However, lately I have been rocking M.A.C.'s Viva Glam Gaga Lipstick with M.A.C. lip liner in Whirl. I am totally obsessed with this combo and have gotten so many complements on my lips- its insane! It totally does make my lips appear to be fuller... maybe because its a light color and light colors make areas appear larger (where as dark makes them look smaller).

This particular campaign strikes a chord in my heart because all proceeds go to those affected by HIV and AIDS. I have been closely affected by the suffering caused by HIV and AIDS, having worked as a volunteer for 6 months in the jungles of Cambodia. The particular orphanage I worked at had mostly AIDS or HIV positive children, and I saw ones in a great deal of pain and even die while I was there. If buying a lipstick means I can help buy medicine for a child - I'm all in! Give me 10!

The bonus to this great buy is that the shade is absolutely lusty. The perfect light blue-pink with a nice sheen, vanilla scent, and moisturizing properties that keep pouts supple and smooth for hours.

I wont leave home without this little autographed lipstick, and neither will you once you try it. The perfect pink addition to any lipstick collection!

The Falsies Mascara

I am the most Mascara obsessed person I think I have ever met. Ever since I first started gobbing on mascara, I have been in search of the perfect one that will add length and volume and ultimately enhance my lashes to the point of false-lash status. This, as most girls probably know, is a near impossible feat considering that falsies add a drama to the eyes that is unmatched by any mascara on the market today. However, I have found a close contender to the false lash, and it is called "The Falsies Mascara" by none other than the leading mascara brand, Maybelline.

I have been a bit of a snob when it comes to drug-store brands, but after being wowed by Maybelline's oh so convincing commercial advertising this new wonder product, I put my snobbishness on hold and rushed to the nearest CVS to pick up this little tube of "false eyelashes". Now this little tube holds something great inside. Let me expound:
Firstly you have this gorgous shiney containter in my favorite shade of purple; and the name "the falsies" is kind of brilliant, don't you think? Inside is a brush that looks full and promising on two sides. On the other two sides you will see a bit of a "hacked" bristle which somehow combs through the freshly mascaraed lashes, making them thicker and smoothing out clumped areas. This bristle placement makes the brush a bit "spoon shaped", which makes me think of spooning on mascara, which is appealing for some reason...
I like the little "flex point" on the wand, which allows the brush to be slightly moved when pressure is put on it, making the application seem more action packed. The mascara formula itself is non-flaking and waterproof, yet easily removed with my daily Facial Cleanser.

I still apply my real falsies, but consider this a great topper for them. On days when I don't have a strip lash, on I can be found beneath several heavy coats of this brilliant mascara, still feeling like my peepers are pretty : )

Just a little obsessed with GAGA

So a few weeks ago I had to extreem thrill of soaking in some Lady Gaga in this two hour interview from showstudio. Now I know that this is a BEAUTY BLOG, and that everything you see up until this point has been all things make up & fashion; so this new post may seem as though it would better fit on another site or blog better than mine... but in all reality, what this encompasses is everything that this blog is about. BEAUTY. Everything about Gaga (to me) is beauty. She has a brilliant mind, and what could be more lovely than beauty that comes from the inward and transcends the physical body in such a spellbinding way?

Watch as Lady Gaga answers from her heart all the questions asked, and graciously endures the endless typing that her interviewer subjects her to.

This interview inspired me to pull out the red lipstick and black liquid liner and dance in the dark. Truly fabulous!

Smokey Eye

I am an absolute sucker for a hot smokey eye and when I saw this photograph of the lovely Kim Kardashian I was inspired!!!

When I have smudged smokey eye makeup I feel super sultry... like a sex-kitten, ready to pounce ;)

There is absolutely no reason to be intimidated by the smokey-eye look, you can do it in minutes. Its really not that hard and the more you practice and play, the better you will get. I have found that the best smokey-eye applications I have done, were done when I wasnt trying hard and when I wasnt trying to get it super perfect. The whole idea of a smokey-eye is rock-and-roll glamour. That "I slept in my makeup and woke up looking this hot" look.

Some of my favorite smokey eye makeup products are:

Baked (rich bronze)

Gunmetal (grey with silver glitter)

Lounge (reddish brown with green pearl sheen)

Maui Wowie (Med Gold with silver glitter)

Smog (deep coppery bronze)

All of these shades are by Urban Decay and are super rich in pigment and demensional tone.

I love to first line my eyes with Aveda's Petal Essence Eye Definer in 920 Black Orchid. It is creamy and blendable and I like to use it to make a blotchy slightly messy line around my eyes which I smudge and blend in with my finger. It isnt a percise line near my lashes, but rather blends up into the lid and creates a creamy base for shadow. Your eyeshadow will meld into this liner and the staying power will be ten-fold! Plus the effect is total smokey-smudged-sexieness! (I almost like the look of just the liner smudged in so much that sometimes Im tempted for forgo the shadow alltogether!) Dont forget to line your water line (top and bottom) with this black liner as well, before applying your mascara. (Your water line is the wet line between your lashes and eyeball).

Follow with several coats of Zoom Lash Mascara by M.A.C. and then apply some individual or strip lashes for ultimate drama.

Remember: There are no rules to creating your glam smokey-eye look. If you want to pair dark grey and black shadows with dark lipstick... do it! (just keep your blush extreemly light!) If you want to keep your lips nude and go with dramatac dark shades on the eyes... do it! Give yourself bold brows to frame your smokey-eyes or keep the brows natural and bare. Either way can be beautiful. Use a light-ish hand when it comes to bronzing your face and go with dewy or matte finish on the skin. Either is really beautiful with dramatic eyes. Having smokey-eyes does not mean black or grey and silver. You can use any color and make it smokey with darker shades of the same color (and black liner) or accent your color with a black shadow. Have fun with it and allow for some mess to make this look sexy by letting your hair be a bit untaimed and your clothes a bit deconstructed! Loves it.

This is a great example of a pale lip paired with a smokey eye and bronzed/blushed cheeks.

These smoked out brown peepers are to die for! Love the smokey bronze colors with the mega lashes.

Simply devine! This look is so sexy. Notice there is little or no blush on her cheeks and her lips and brows are quite natural. The eyes alone bring the intinsity and drama and really are the focal point of the face.

Here Jennifer Lopez shows off her pretty peepers with a smoked mossy green color which is electric! I love the soft peachy lips with the green shadow and the peach cheeks.

You dont have to go dark to have a smokey-eye as you see here in the picture of the beautiful Drew.

Notice what some lashes can do to sex up your eyes! Love this look for day-time glamour.

Whenever I see this add of Drew, I am breathless! Her makeup and hair is ravishing! I adore a warm reddish brown shadow palet on light blue or green eyes.

Use shimmery shadows that have warm undertones to create this look. Love Love Love!

Love the pinky purples. The shadows look like cream shadows - which are easy to blend. Just use a primer like Benefit's Stay Don't Stray to keep your shadow from migrating or creasing.

See what I mean about incorporating color? Pinks, Purples, Blues, Greens... there is no limit to what you can create with color. Love the white lined waterline in this picture. Makse the eyes appear wider yet the eye is defined with the lower lash liner.

Love the bright blue with the soft pink lip.

Saturate the lashes with coat after coat of mascara! Cake it on girl! Dont be shy of clumpy dramatic lashes when you are sporting the smokey-eye. Love the exaggerated liner in this pic and the brows are enhanced with dark color and the inner eye area/sides of nose are darkened with shadows. Sex Kitten to the max!!!

Last but not least is my most fav fav fav lady rocking the bold brow paired with a smokey-eye, pink cheeks and Barbie pink lips! I die. Absolutely glam-gasmic!

Another shot of the same application. I just layered the dark atop the bright pink and exaggerated the "cat-eye" out past the end of the brows.

Here I used Urban Decay's "Gunmetal" and M.A.C. eyeshadow in "Greensmoke" with black liner and false lashes and tons of mascara! Darkened my brows with M.A.C.'s Quite Natural Paint Pot and angle brush #266 (also by M.A.C.) and used M.A.C blush in "Sunbasque" and "Viva Glam Gaga" Lipstick (M.A.C.) with M.A.C. liner in "Whirl".

Airbrush Tanning

So... here we are, back to talking about tanning! Really though, have you ever pondered why being tan is such a desirable feature to have?

I was recently in a Dinair class learning the techniques of airbrush makeup and air-tanning; and during the introduction, the husband of Dina (creator of Dinair) gave a bit of a talk about tanning. The perspective he gave to the idea was that of tanning being a desirable thing because it is like youth: it gives options.

When you are young, your options are endless... your dating potential and that "finding a mate" ability is higher, you are a desirable asset to many workforces and you have that YOUNG beauty, that innocence that is still on your side as well as the charming naivety of not knowing and of not being jaded yet by any number of life experiences.

Now I think that a whole new set of desirable qualities come in to play once you are more mature and "aged", but I understood the point the speaker was trying to make about options. Being tan is a "illusion" as he put it, of being youthful, thus making you have that "young appeal" which makes you feel as though your chances of success in any category of life have just been tripled.

After the introductory talk, Dina asked for a model for the spray tan demonstration. When I first sat down in the class I took a quick inventory of the students and estimated there were well near 30 students in the class... and none of them were jumping up for the chance of a spray tan - which surprised me! So... I volunteered myself! After all, who doesn’t want a free spray-tan, right? The thing I failed to consider in that moment was the possibility that I would have to stand naked for nearly an hour in front of everyone, and make-up-less at that (personally, the sans make-up part was more scary than the naked part)!

What I felt in that hour, wearing only a pair of paper panties (which were see-through) was quite interesting! I actually felt more naked before the tan than after. This proved the speakers point. Before being tan, I felt less attractive and more naked than I did after being sprayed down with the tanning formula. I probably could have gone through the whole day naked once I was tanned! I felt sexier, thinner, and more confident.

When I was told to expect my new air-tan to last a good 10 days, I laughed. No spray tan I have ever had lasted even HALF of that! But here I am, 11 days later with still a slight hint of Dinair tan. Best of all, my tan has not faded into what could be mistaken as a skin disease as all the other spray tans I have had do. Don’t you hate that patchy sun-damaged look that faux tans seem to turn into right before vanishing all together? I sure do!

Now, on to the actual tanning formula that I experienced... Dinair is a company that has been around since 1981 (born the same year I was!) and is a pioneer in the concept of airbrush makeup. With celebrity clients such as Tom Cruise and Pamela Anderson, it is no secret that their formulas are second to none, and the air-tan systems are no less amazing than their makeup!

I was astonished also to find that there was no less-than-appealing odor that developed as my tan deepened (something that you will find happens with most sunless tanning formulas!). Also, minutes after being air-tanned, my skin was smooth and soft and not in the least bit tacky. I actually went the rest of that day without feeling that "dirty" feeling that spray tans tend to give you. I also was particularly glad that my tan did not have the least bit of an orangey hue.... but rather was a true bronze, streak free and with a believable depth.

I have nothing but good things to report about this product and am happy to announce that I am now a certified air-tan artisan! I have yet to get my actual machine (but it’s on its way!) and will be making house calls very soon... making pale beauties into bronze goddesses...and white-skinned men into Greek gods! No more standing in a pod-like massive machine and getting an in-personal spray down from jets, (hello Mystic Tan!) while inhaling most of the solution! How unhealthy that is and what possible health risks are we putting ourselves in danger of by going that route!?! No thanks. Also, with air-tanning you can get muscle definition enhanced with tan contouring... something that fitness buffs LOVE.

Shadow & Concelear Primer Confession

SO... I have tried them all! Primers that claim to keep eye-makeup in place... every makeup line has them, right? Well, I have finally found the perfect one and I am here to present it to you! Please welcome Stay Don't Stray by Benefit.

NOTE: I am not a huge Benefit user. In fact, I only use and love their lipsticks... untill now!

Last week I was in Sephora (my favorite store on earth!) and they were having an in-store event for the launch of Stay Don't Stray. I decided to try it... why not right? I have done quite well (for the most part!) at resisting buying their products just cause they are in such cute wrappings. This time I was buying it for the sole purpose of getting a benefit!

For the past two days I have used this primer and have to say- this product works! It doesn't dry my skin out like other primers I have tried. Quite to opposite actually; It hydrates the skin with sodium hyaluronate and also fights signs of aging with Vitamins C & E.

My skin is far from perfect and on occasion I get a blemish... I actually had one this week so I decided to try using this primer on my blemish. It worked amazingly! No creases or funny looking circles around the blemish... it blends seamlessly in the skin. In the eye area I noticed an immediate brightened effect and my fine lines were minimized. After applying the primer, I layered three different shades of shadow and then set out to give the ultimate test to this little primer... 16 + hours of wear. I can honestly report that everything is in the same place I put it, and my eye-makeup still looks just as pretty and fresh as when I first applied it.

Botox Alternative Confession

Filling out paperwork post treatment

A girlfriend and I recently went in to see my go-to Plastic Surgeon for Injectables, Dr. Michael Pickart, to see what could be done about the line/wrinkle we both have between our brows. This furrow has bothered me for awhile now, and I notice it even when I'm relaxed, which is REALLY annoying. I don't want to look stressed or angry when I am not, but I have noticed that I do have that look because of this line.

I have tried Botox before (when I was 23), but my line wasn't that bothersome back then so I didn't notice that big of a difference. At that time I only needed $50 worth of Botox which equaled about 5 units. Now that I am older and have more of an issue in this area, I knew I would need alot more than 5 units of anything to completely freeze my forehead. Unwilling to pay $10 a unit for Botox, I decided to research the new alternative, Dysport. I had already seen results first-hand from my sister who I took to see Dr. Pickart last Spring to address the line between her brows before her wedding. She was really happy with the results as well as the price... so Dysport was already forefront in my mind when it came to muscle freezing injectables.

I was pleasantly surprised to learn that Dysport was offering a special through April and May of $75 cash rebate as well as $75 credit towards your next Dysport appointment, AND Dr. Pickart was also taking $50 off the treatment. With savings like that can a girl really say no? I think not!

Dr. Pickart was on vacation during the time that we wanted to have our visit, so we agreed to allow his RN who is trained and licenced to do injecables perform our treatments. She was very nice and informative and totally fine with our picture snapping for my blog... which was super nice of her!

First she started by assessing the severity of our wrinkles and then prepped the skin with alcohol to kill bacteria on the skin and remove makeup.

Then came the marking of the injection sites which was done with a lip-liner type of pencil. She did this marking while I furrowed my brows as hard as I could so that she could see the muscles that worked to push my brows together.

Next came the numbing post injection which was done with a frozen encased cube of ice. It actually felt good, and took only about 30 seconds to numb the area.

Then came the anticipated needle, which I must note is extremely small. The point is actually so fine that it is dulled rather quickly just from puncturing the skin several times, so the nurse changed needles twice during my treatment to insure that there was no discomfort as a result of a dull-tipped needle.

The pain really was minor and the whole treatment was over so quickly that I wondered if there was even enough injected to do the trick! I was assured by the RN that 50 units were injected into 6 different points above and between my brows and that in about 12 days I would see the full results.

After the injections were finished there was a momentary "bubble" at the injection site between my brows. This disappeared within about 2 minutes as did the slight redness. The total cost after the discount and rebate was $100.00.

The next morning I woke up with a huge headache, but I don't know if the Dysport is to blame for that or the martinis that I consumed following my appointment! My girlfriend that also had the treatment with me said that she had read that headaches can be a side affect immediately following the treatment, so who knows, maybe it was the Dysport, maybe it was the martinis!

Over the next few days following the treatment I noticed that I was still able to push my brows together forming that dreaded line/wrinkle... but there was a little "heavy" feeling in that area when I tried do do it, as though I was pushing against something.

Now, 13 days later I am happy to report that any "pushing" of the brows together is completely impossible! There is NO wrinkle or line there whatsoever and my brows look as though I have had a slight brow-lift. They are higher and seem more arched and my forehead is incredibly smooth. I love it and am totally hooked!

My girlfriend on the other hand is slightly less thrilled. She likes that her line is less noticeable and that she can't make it deeper by furrowing her brows together, but she seems to think that more than 50 units of Dysport are needed and will probably get more on her next visit as to completely keep the muscles unmovable. She also isn't too keen on the slightly more arched brows and says that next time she will ask for that portion of the treatment to be skipped.

Another thing that she notes is that while moving her brows together is not easy, she is noticing that the effort to do that creates wrinkles in other areas that she never noticed before. This does make sense to me in a strange way, because the "frozen muscles" now cause other muscles to come into action which makes little lines in places that weren't affected before. I don't have this problem, but then again, I don't use my forehead in expression when talking nearly as much as my girlfriend does. She thinks that the solution to this would be to have more of the muscles injected with Dysport as to not have any functioning muscles in the forehead (now this is a VERY anti-injection friend that I have, so doing the whole forehead numbing thing probably isn't something she will ever do, and she states that she will only do Dysport "one more time").

Overall, my experience with Dysport was fantastic and I highly recommend it for anyone wanting to rid their forehead of lines or created a bit of a lift effect to their brows.

Have you ever seen a beauty so unconventional that you wonder if you even dare call it beautiful? Have you ever been shocked by a fashion statement, obviously made with blatant disregard or concern for what others may think? Have you ever heard of Isabella Blow?

I sat down some time ago to write a blog about the late Isabella blow, who took her own life three years ago today... but I was overwhelmed with the amount of material I found to draw from. Her life seemed so full (too full to condense) and so I have to just give you a link... lame I know, but its a good read, worthy of any beauty addict or fashion slave's time. Isabella Blow may not be a household name, but in the world of fashion, she was and is a name that brings to mind a free spirit with gall, passion and an eccentric eye to boot. Her closest friends were famous designers, many of which were discovered by Isabella herself.

Blow was not, by any conventional measure, a beautiful woman. She was jolie laide, maybe, but not pretty. “It pains me to say so,” she once said, “but I’m ugly. I know that’s subjective, so perhaps I should say instead that I’m striking. My face is like a Plantagenet portrait.” But Isabella dressed her way around her less than attractive features, in cinched waists and heels, cleavage, lipstick and hats that were more like sculptural art pieces. She once stated “Tracksuit bottoms for lunch, dinner, or in fact any time except for sport are completely unacceptable," and “There’s no point clomping around like a duck in flat shoes,” or “I simply can’t look at you without lipstick,” or “I do just love breasts. They’re so old-fashioned.”

It is said that her feet were always in Manolos, sometimes matching, sometimes not. I find that to be so deliciously odd and completely fantastic that it makes me wanna do it! Just think of the last time you pondered two pair's of simply fabulous shoes and found it nearly impossible to make a decision on which to wear. Well Isabella had the perfect solution: wear them both. And in doing so she made a fashion statement worthy of branding in my opinion!

Isabella is credited for the beginning of Philip Treacy, a famous hat designer who she discovered and hired to create a hat for her wedding in 1989. Seeing Treacy's talent, Blow situatedTreacy in her London flat, where he worked on his collections. She religiously wore Treacy's hats, making them a signature part of her outlandish style. In a 2002 interview with Tamsin Blanchard, Blow declared that she wore extravagant hats for a practical reason:
"...to keep everyone away from me. They say, Oh, can I kiss you? I say, No, thank you very much. That's why I've worn the hat. Goodbye. I don't want to be kissed by all and sundry. I want to be kissed by the people I love."

In 1992, Isabella Blow went to St. Martin's fashion college to watch the graduating seniors' projects, and fell head-over-Manolos for the work of the now past Alexander McQueen. It is a know fact that after the show, she called him up and said, "I know this sounds weird, but I'd like to buy the whole thing." Which she did. Alexander McQueen took his own life on Feb 11, 2010. So sad, it pains me just to type it. Such talent and such a mind... creative genius can be crushing I suppose, and such immense burden it must be to portray in real form when the imagination is in such a spin... I cant even fathom what frustrations and depressions must result from such a brilliant and creative mind...

There is something so fascinating about these sort of rare breeds... It just makes me want to delve into a rich memoir or biography about one of them, so as to try to find reason for their madness... but how can it be possible to understand though unless you share the madness, right?

Best Shampoo and Conditioner Confession

At my most recent hair appointment my hair stylist gave me packets of shampoo, conditioner and conditioning treatment samples of Iden Bee Hair Care Products. I am not one that gets excited about things being "natural" or "herbal" - so the fact that some of the main ingredients were bee propolis, carrot seed oil and apricot kernel oil did not impress me much. What did impress me was the way my hair felt after one use. I have over 150 extensions which (although the best quality) have gone through somewhat of a damaging process to get to where they are- which is on my head! I try to avoid using the blow dryer or heat styling tools very often, but still my hair is dry and slightly damaged and doesn't always feel as soft and have that "silk-factor" that all women want.

When I used Iden Bee Balancing shampoo and conditioner my hair was transformed into silk! It felt so good, so healthy and so shiny! I absolutely love this stuff and cant rave about it enough.

Red Nail Confession

This is the first blog I've posted about nails... which surprises me because I'm such a sucker for a bright colored nail! I have relished many a pretty polished set of nailsies, but most recently have fallen for a flashy red that is daring, bold, bright and sexy! Its called Sunset for Two and its by Nicole for O.P.I.

I like my nails to be simi-short (these are my actual nails in the pic) because you can have them any color and it wont be obnoxious. If your nails are much longer, a bright color can look gaudy and too mature (and dated!). Keep a high gloss top coat over your polish to keep it from chipping and to make them extra shiny and eye-catching!

Confession: All things Jessica Simpson

I'm really inspired lately by Jessica Simpson's The Price Of Beauty show on VH1, in which she explores the standard of beauty according to different cultures around the world. Being a bit of a traveler myself, I can really appreciate the show and all the different countries that Jessica visits. I like how she doesn't just observe the different rituals and beauty practices, but she try's them for herself!
I think that the show could be a bit deeper, it seems a bit surface to me and is only half an hour per episode. But still, I admire any celeb (or anyone else for that matter!) that broadens their mind by exploring this world we live in and who touch and bless others in the process. Go Jessica. : )

In this months issue of Marie Claire Jessica Simpson poses sans makeup for the cover and and inside spread. She is obviously trying to make the point that our culture has a warped sense of beauty, and I applaud her for her bravery and efforts! While I think that she would have looked much better with makeup and some hair styling, I get the point.

Fragrance Confession: Day & Night

For a good while now I have been a devout user of Juicy Couture's Viva La Juicy... it is a delicious fragrance comprised of Wild Berries, Mandarins, Honeysuckle, Gardenia, Jasmine, Amber, Caramel, Vanilla, Sandalwood and Praline. Its sexy, light, and the perfect young woman scent.

As they say though, all good things must come to an end and eventually my rather large bottle of Viva La Juicy diminished, and I was left with a decision... get another or try something new?

Its my personal belief that one should never settle simply because they find a good fit. Summer time is almost here my lovlies, and you know just as well as I do that tan skin and toned body are the covited must haves for this season! However, having a show stopping body and a tan that would make Barbie jelous is all for nothing if you have embarassing body breakouts! You know what Im talking about... those little blemishes that creep up over your shoulders and upper back and maybe even the upper arms (God forbid!). I have good news for you though... Peter Thomas Roth is to the rescue! I have come to love (and depend on!) the fabulous Peter Thomas Roth Blemish Buffing Beads 8.5 fl oz. to keep my body blemish free. I even use this on my face once a week for a super exfolaint that keeps bacteria and breakouts at bay. (NOTE: This product is NOT for those with sensative facial skin! It is an agressive acne product.)

She is stunning. A tiny little face with big doll eyes and a not exactly tiny nose with a mouth that just couldn't be cuter or more interesting. I am always drawn to her in pictures and on the big screen. I love the emotionally fragile and sometimes aggressive spitfire characters she plays.

I love that she is not always lovely in films... she isn't afraid being ugly - of being a mess and an absolute wreck, and to me that makes her all the more interesting and beautiful. I cant recall a beauty as astonishing as her's be as vulnerable to a visual unraveling.

Such array of aesthetic tragedy has befallen her on screen... tears, snot, smeared eyeliner, harsh red on and around her mouth in no discernible shape, not to mention very believable agony and rage which completely consumes her appearance, distorting her features and making her near unrecognizable.

I love how fearless she is.

She is not defined by her beauty, but rather lets the sheer genius and raw ability of her craft be her defining feature. Just looking at photographs of her make me want to do something creative like paint, write or experiment with hair and makeup... that's called inspiration! I love it!

Alternative Makeup Confession

Very few people that I know have an understanding of what my upbringing was like...

I was raised along with my 5 younger sisters in the hills of Tennessee amongst the "Plain People", also knows as the Amish and Mennonite. My parents adopted many of their customs and our way of living closely emulated theirs.

Even as a young girl, living in the boonies and having very little social interaction with the outside world, I had a strong interest in fashion and beauty. I remember gathering various items from around the house such as colored sticks of chalk, felt tipped markers, and freshly steamed beets from the garden and going into the bathroom, closing and locking the door, and them playing with the colors on my nails, cheeks, lips and eyelids.

I was obsessed from a young age with enhancement and transformation. I marveled the difference in my appearance a little colored chalk on my eyelids made. I would use the stain from the beets to dye my lips and would carefully blot it on my cheeks and then smooth it about before it dried, for a flush that made me look 100 times better (I thought!). I would use Vaseline from the bathroom cupboard to make my lashes look darker and would use the markers to color my nails and eyes (red or pink for nails, and brown to line the eyes).

I seemed to forget at the time what kind of consequences would follow... and for a moment it didn't matter. I was experimenting and creating and that was an exciting adventure for me.

As I got older I began to earn my own living (albeit still living at home). I saved my earnings for my first beauty item, a soft pressed powder blush from Clinique. I would put it on and feel like a new person... like a glamorous and modern girl. I felt pretty.

Gone now are the days of having to improvise with beauty... I have so many options when it comes to cosmetics and I want to make sure that my daughter has the freedom to experiment and have fun with makeup too. I put shimmery eyeshadow on her or blush whenever she asks for it and paint her nails any shade she fancy's. I find a sense of fulfillment in doing those little things. Its like I'm making up for my childhood desire that wasn't fed to be a girly girl.

I am obsessed, as most girls are, with cute handbags. Every girl needs at least one black clutch, a cross-body black bag (both of which are basics in accessories because they are black and versatile), and ofcourse delicious brightly colored bags that just make her happy to look at! I love large over sized bags, which most days are what I can be spotted toting. I am, after all, a mother, so its convenient to have a large bag that fits both things my daughter might need as well as all my personal purse must-haves.

Spring/Summer 2010 Runway models rocked cute and trendy crossbody bags and I totally dig the young and hip look they give an outfit. This season you will no doubt see a bit of a Bohemian flair to shoulder-bags (think fringe, tie-dye, tassels and slouch) as well as Hardware which is carried over from fall (studs, grommets and exposed zippers) and bright colors that POP.

Color is what usually catches my eye first. I love jewel tones, neon colors and some (but not often) pastels. Im a sucker also for an interesting texture. I love weaving, braids, rouching, pleating, and embossed designs in soft leather.

Confession: Show me your teeth

Whenever I see nice teeth I instantly think of licking them. I cant help it. Its like nice gum's and pearly whites between soft, plump lips just exude sexy and say "I'm a good kisser".

As much as beautiful teeth turn me on, crooked and discolored ones turn me off! I just think it is inexcusable to have poor hygiene in the mouth area. My biggest pet peeve has to be seeing someone who can afford to have nice chompers, but don't. Your smile is something that you give the people you love, the ones that make you laugh, and the stranger you find attractive that you just might like to get to know better. So why not invest in the best possible one you can have?

When I was about 14 I was given the wonderful gift of BRACES.... I even had headgear. Yes... not terribly sexy.... just terrible. But it really made a difference in the appearance and I am forever grateful for that!

Unfortunately I wasn't diligent with my retainer wear, and my teeth got crooked again. I plan to get Lumineers to correct them. Lumineers are fan-freaking-tastic, because it only takes two short visits to get the smile of your dreams. No more waiting years with a mouth full of metal! I love it.

Being straight isn't all that its about though as I mentioned earlier. There are dozens of ways to whiten... but one I have found that is SO easy and so effective is GoSmile. Confession: Instant tanners are a staple in my tanning diet!

I don't know about you, but I love being spontaneous. It is fun to be somewhat unpredictable and to do things unplanned, but the one thing I hate about last minute decisions is not being prepared. There have been countless occasions where I have had to doll up for a party or a night out on the town with the girls and been frantically wondering what to wear and how to get a tan last minute (because we all know that a tan makes any outfit cuter, right?).

This past Christmas my cousin Jennifer gifted me with a basket full of beauty items. Among the makeup and purfume, skin care and glitter was a instant glow mousse from St Tropez that I now simply can't live without. Its the item that I reach for when I need a tan NOW and cant be bothered to be Spray tanned or wait for a gradual sunless tanning lotion to do its thing. This product smells good and is in every sense of the word, instant. Literally pump a palm full of this mouse out and spread onto clean skin (freshly exfolated is always best) and watch your skin go from pale to bronze. Its that easy and there is no way to detect it. It rubs in even, doesnt streak or make your skin orange, and doesnt transfer onto clothing.

This is a WASH OFF Mousse, so this is not something you would use if you are going to the beach and may get wet because it does come off with water. Also must mention that although the label says that this will simply wash off your palms with soap and water - it doesnt. I had those dreaded "I just sunless tanned" palms that are a dead giveaway and very unnatractive the other night! From now on Ill use gloves when applying this product.

As an Aesthetician I feel like it is my responsibility to inform clients and friends about the harm that tanning can have on your skin. Not only does it age you, but it also is dangerous... Skin cancer is a very real and serious thing! I say this and I believe this, but I also believe in all things in moderation. I am not gonna lie, I do tan on occasion and know that a little is actually good for you because your body needs vitamin D (which comes from the sun) and lets admit it - 20 minutes of defrosting mid-winter feels absolutely divine. Sunless tanners are a life saver, literally, and should be used 90% of the time and tanning beds or laying out only 10% of the time - Im my opinion.

Please expect to hear more on this topic as I try (and either hate or love!) new sunless tanning products over the summer! If you have any secrets to getting a golden glow, please do share! I love to hear what works for others! There are so many sunless tanning products out there that there really is something for everyone... so never belive that you can't have a beautiful tan without the sun, becuase you absolutely can.

Confession: Makeup actually is Optional

Makeup is the first thing I put on in the morning after my shower and the last thing I take off at the end of the day. It is important to me to look my best even if no one is going to see me (usually I'm at home alone with my daughter which means that she is the only one who sees my face!). For me, when my makeup is on I feel better about myself, and by making it a daily habit I am teaching my daughter that the care of ones self is important. Also... I have fun with it and love trying new looks and products! Its my creative outlet : )

Just as important as makeup is to me, skin-care is equally vital in my beauty routine. I have used SO MANY different product lines and have liked some and hated many! I recently found a skin care line that I LOVE. It is Philosophy. My introduction to this line was in a kit form called Advanced Makeup Optional Trial Kit. The value of buying a kit versus buying each product individually is phenomal. I highly recommend it. Also I must add that the products in this kit are full size and NOT trial sized, so you really are getting a great deal.

The reason why I love the products in this kit so much is because they work, and I mean work. The texture of my skin has improved sooooo much since I started using them. Its smoother (to look at and to touch!) and my skin tone is more even. I totally don't have to put on foundation anymore if I don't want to.

I love the facial cleanser in this kit as well as the scrub and I use them both every night to remove my makeup. The serum I use every night after cleansing and every morning after showering (I don't cleanse in the morning because I have combination skin that becomes oily skin if I cleanse twice a day). I moisturize with the retinol cream every morning and every night. The sunscreen I find it to be too heavy for my skin (for daily use) but I will probably use it this summer when I'm out in the sun.... for someone with dryer skin it would probably work great.

Ever have razor burn? I sure have and I absolutely despise that raw feeling and red bumpy look after shaving... for this reason I have tried just about everthing to buffer the razor-skin connection. Shaving creams dont do much for me and waxing isnt always affordable or even worthwile for some. For me, waxing doesnt work well because I tend to have brittle hair that breaks off istead of comes out with the wax. That is the worst because the breaking pont is a smidge below the skin serface which means that the tip of the hair gets trapped under the skin and continues to grow, thus becoming a dreaded ingrown. I have had clients in the who also have the same experience when it comes to waxing and for them I recommend Dermalogica Close Shave Oil 30ml/1oz. Lipstick Confession (or Obsession!)

I have never been a huge fan of lipstick... I usually opt for the liner with gloss or color pots but I have recently discovered a lipstick that has me in love! Its by Benefit and is called Silk Finish Lipstick and it is DEVINE. Trust me, your lips will love this!

I forced myself to pick color favorites for this blog and it was difficult because they are all so lovely! Truthfully though, you and I could rock any of the colors available. They are absolutely beautiful and although some of them are brighter than others they do have a bit of a sheer quality to them as well.

One last thing and then Ill quit raving: The texture of this stick is so creamy soft it just melts into your lips! It isn't drying like normal lipstick but rather the opposite - its very moisturizing. Perhaps that is why they call it a silk finish lipstick?

Boot Confession

So, I'm NOT the girl that goes around in tennis shoes or flip flops.... only sexy hells for me please! This was me before finding the very fabulous Iden boots by Steve Madden.

I love the feeling of not being sore after hours of wearing the same pair of shoes! They are so comfortable yet you dont have to sacrafice your love for trend because these babies are so IN! Ive been seeing them everywhere but wasnt sure I could pull it off (and not sure I wanted to! They are after-all....FLAT.) These boots are a bit of an illusion though because although they look flat your heel is actually elivated slightly by an inconspicious wedge. This little wedge makes all the difference inthe world when walking because you arent on a flat foot so you still get that feeling of being in a heel - minus the pain.

Because they are understated (simple in design) they go with so many things. My favorite way to wear them is with leggings and an over sized knit sweater or tunic.

Brow Inspiration: Kim Kardashian

As an Aesthetician, I have done hundreds a eyebrow brow-shaping using tweezers, wax, brow pencils or powders. I have marveled at the transformation that happens when unruly natural brows are tamed and shaped. Eyes are made to appear larger and more lovely and the whole face takes on a more polished appearance. My latest brow enhancing confession is that of Anastasia Beverly Hills Tinted Brow Gel - Granite

It is absolutely AMAZING! I no longer need brow powder or pencil to define my brows! This gel both defines the contour of the brow by filling in sparse areas as well as fattening faint hairs to create the appearance of fuller thicker eyebrows. As an added bonus, the gel keeps strays in place so that you have a perfect brow line with no out of place hairs in sight! Its pure magic and I'm OBSESSED.

I love this brow gel in "Granite", its the perfect color for my brows and gives a "natural" (but definitely not neglected) look.
